We appreciate how important the links between home and school are, and the need for us to work together to ensure a good education for all pupils. It is for this reason, we believe that it is important that children share their learning with parents and carers at home.
What is homework
Homework is defined as, “work or activities which pupils are asked to do outside lesson time, either on their own or with parents or carers”.
The purpose of homework
Its aim is to:
consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding of concepts, particularly in literacy and numeracy;
exploit the resources at home and in the local environment for the purpose of additional learning;
provide opportunities for parents, pupils and school to work together in partnership in children’s learning thus increasing the opportunities to enjoy the learning experience;
encourage pupils as they get older to develop the confidence and self-discipline needed to study on their own, and prepare them for the requirements of secondary school;
Our approach to ‘homework’ varies throughout the school, according to the age of the child.
The one thing that remains constant throughout is the fact that it can only benefit the child if we have your support.
Homework expectation
Across the school, Foundation Stage to Year 6, all children are expected to read daily and to record books read in their home liaison books
