PSHE is an area covered in many different ways.

Some of the objectives are encountered through other subjects; for instance, discussion about friendship may occur as part of an RE lesson or during Circle Time assemblies.  Exploring issues to do with money and savings may occur during maths or as part of a Technology assignment.  There are some areas that need to be presented as separate topics such as drugs education, first aid, road safety and some elements of sex and relationship education.

Specific topics that children will encounter include:

  • Heart Start
  • Cycling Proficiency
  • Drug Education
  • Community service (Children help out at the local Riding for Disabled Assoc.)

Sex education appears in two forms in our school.  There are programmes of studies that are contained within the National Science Curriculum.  This information is required by law and must be taught to all children.  The parents have no right of withdrawal from this.

The second form of sex education is a dedicated topic delivered to children at the appropriate stages.  This seeks to answer questions that the staff feel the children are ready to ask.  The school will also seek to place any sex education within the context of a loving relationship and the responsibilities that this brings.  Whilst parents do have a right to withdraw their children from this topic, we hope that parents would trust the school to deliver the programme in a sensitive and thoughtful manner.

The school nurse, Pam Hope, is always happy to talk and advise parents on any medical issues.  For further details please ask for the School’s Sex Education Policy
