We encourage children to experience music in all its forms through subjects, assemblies and after school activities.
Children are taught to play the recorder in Key Stage 2 and have the opportunity to learn the guitar and violin through clubs and private lessons. Our Key Stage 1 music club gives children the opportunity to compose, learn simple notation and sing. Children perform at school celebrations, services and festivals throughout the year.
Throughout the music curriculum all pupils will work on the following two programmes of study.
The Two programmes of study are:
One
Performing and composing
Singing a variety of songs and playing simple pieces and accompaniments
Select and combine appropriate instruments
Make expressive use of musical elements
Use symbols when performing-communicating musical ideas
Two
Listening and appraising
Listening to live and recorded sounds
Recognising different sounds
Listening to a wide variety of music in different styles and from different cultures
Describe and compare sounds
Recognise how music communicates moods and ideas
Evaluate own work
Use a musical vocabulary to describe and compare music from different traditions
