What People Think…
“Pupils make an outstanding contribution to the smooth running of the school and are very involved in the local community. Strong links with local cluster schools also benefit pupils. There are good relationships in classes and pupils are, therefore keen and involved. Lessons are lively and engaging. The school’s promotion of equality of opportunity is good, as all pupils are valued and treated as individuals.”

Severn Class
Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 are in Severn Class.
Severn Class have had a brilliant start to the term with a seaside topic, making sandcastles, measuring water, writing about fish and island adventures. They are looking forward to a ‘Pirate Day’ on Friday 23rd September 2011, to round off their seaside theme.
We had a fantastic Pirate Day. The children dressed up, made treasure maps, found buried treasure in the sand, wrote pirate stories and acted them out with puppets, made flags, played pirate games and made a massive pirate ship out of crates and wooden blocks. The children thoroughly enjoyed the first of many theme days at Whitbourne.
Our topic for the rest of this half term is ‘Me and my family’. The children are learning about their senses and how they use these in daily life, learning through Welly walks all about the village of Whitbourne and thinking about how they and other family members change and develop.
In preparation for the Harvest celebrations the children in Severn have been learning the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and how to act it out using picture prompts and actions. They have been learning all about signs of Autumn (although the heatwave last week was slightly confusing!) and how animals are preparing themselves for the long winter months ahead.
We are really looking forward to our Harvest Festival on 14th October at 2pm at Whitbourne Church. The whole school have been learning a variety of songs and are preparing a class song or poem to share with the congregation.
